Fareshare gives employers the ability to offer subsidised public transport to their staff as an employee benefit that is exempt from fringe benefit tax. Once Fareshare is loaded onto employees AT HOP cards passengers are charged a reduced fare on eligible journeys, with the employer paying the difference. GoSee has been trialling the programme from the start and have just increased their subsidy from 25% to an exciting 50%! Auckland Transport’s Fareshare programme allows employers to subsidise their employee’s public transport costs by 25%, 50% or 75% on AT services. Employers can choose to subsidise employee’s travel from Monday to Friday or 7-days a week, and Fareshare is exempt from Fringe Benefit Tax. Genesis were the genesis of AT’s Fareshare program - they’ve been with us from the start trialling our beta product. We’re excited to have just migrated them over to a slick new version of the Fareshare platform as well as hosting an activation session in their office – inviting staff to register for the subsidy on the new platform, answering questions and handing out jellybeans and HOP card holders. It takes less than 5 minutes to get signed up! George, the Fleet, Transport & Travel Manager says “Genesis are excited to use AT Fareshare to subsidise and encourage use of public transport to and from our Auckland sites.
