Auckland Transport Update

Kia ora,

The Government has announced that Auckland will be moving to the Red setting of the new COVID-19 Protection Framework (the Traffic Light System) on Friday 3 December.

With things changing for Aucklanders, we wanted to make sure you have all the details you need to use our bus, train and ferry services with confidence. This includes changes to the rules around physical distancing, and a reminder to wear a face mask and scan in onboard our services.

What do I need to know?

When taking public transport:

  • It’s still important that you wear a face mask onboard and while waiting at a stop or station.
  • Make sure you scan the QR code onboard your ride with the NZ COVID-19 Tracer App.
  • We’ll continue to run a reduced timetable for services, so we recommend you plan your journey using the AT Journey Planner or AT Mobile App.

While we’re not returning to full services just yet, we’re confident that we have plenty of room onboard our buses, trains, and ferries. We’ll continue to monitor passenger numbers to make sure there is enough space onboard our services and will make adjustments where needed.

What’s different about catching public transport?

  • Physical distancing is no longer a requirement onboard our services, which means someone might be sitting next to you onboard.
  • You can board through the front door and exit through the rear door when catching a bus.
  • Night Bus services are being added to run on Friday and Saturday nights to make sure that if you’re out and about enjoying the festive season, you can get home safely.

We’ll get you there safely

We’re continuing to ensure all public transport vehicles are being thoroughly cleaned every day. This includes spot checks, surfaces being sanitised, and our enhanced cleaning of our facilities and fleet.
