What you need to know about transport in Auckland

Public transport will continue to operate with strict health and safety requirements in place. Per government advice, you must maintain 1 metre physical distancing and should scan the Ministry of Health’s NZ COVID Tracer app QR code, plus you must wear a face covering.

  • School buses will continue to operate.
  • Public transport timetables will remain as normal.
  • Under Alert Level 3, we will continue with road surfacing, repair and footpath works. Our construction sites will also continue to operate under the Ministry of Health guidelines.

Public transport during Alert Level 3

Fares will continue to be charged throughout Alert Level 3. Cash will not be accepted on public transport. Customers must tag on/off with their AT HOP card and we strongly recommend that you register your AT HOP card to help with contact tracing should it be needed. If you hear a triple-beep when you tag on, that means your card is not registered.

We recommend you plan ahead using our AT Mobile app or Journey Planner. Remember, the AT Mobile app and our Passenger Information Displays show how many people are on a bus or train service at any given time. This lets you know if physical distancing is achievable before you board.

If you need more help

During this time, we recommend customers use our AT Mobile app or our website to purchase an AT HOP card, check their HOP card balance, or plan a journey.

Our call centre remains open if you need further assistance and can be contacted on (09) 366 6400.

Traffic, road works and construction sites

Under Alert Level 3, we will continue with planned road surfacing, repair and footpath works. Our construction sites will continue to operate under the Ministry of Health guidelines.

Parking in AT buildings and on-street will continue as will the enforcement of parking restrictions, bus lanes and other special vehicle lanes.

Parking and transport officers will also be assisting authorities by monitoring physical distancing behaviour across our network and assisting essential healthcare and community testing facilities with any transport related issues.

Out and about in your neighbourhood

If you’re walking and cycling during Alert Level 3, make sure you maintain physical distancing from other people. For information on cycling and walking, including maps and how to videos, check out our Cycling & Walking webpage.
