Fare-Free Saturday

Get ready for a big day out on trains, buses and ferries this Saturday 3rd July. Most bus, train and ferry services will be free all day long, except for Devonport and Waiheke Ferries, and the Skybus service.

There’s a whole lot to see around Tāmaki Makaurau, including the new transformed Downtown area, Commercial Bay, Matariki on the Waterfront at Silo Park, and the newly refurbished Karangahape Road.

Travel is also free for those heading Mt Smart Stadium to watch the All Blacks play Tonga.

Please remember to tag on and off with your AT HOP card as normal on buses and trains. You don't need to tag on and off on ferries. If you are travelling with someone who doesn’t have a HOP card, don’t worry, they’ll still be able to travel.

Come and celebrate with us. Explore Auckland for free this Saturday!

Victoria and Albert Street Intersection closure

On 27 June the Intersection of Victoria and Albert Streets in the central city was closed for construction of the new Aotea Station, as part of the City Rail Link project. Because of this some bus routes and stops have moved.

Victoria Street remains open for business and for pedestrians. AT will have ambassadors out and about during the change-over period just in case you're not sure where to go.

Bus routes affected:

Inner Link, Outer Link, NX2, 18, 101, 110, 125X, 129, 195, 22A, 22R, 22N, 24B, 24R, 24W, 209, 75, 82, 802, 923, 924.

Wellesley Street has now re-opened for through traffic, including buses. If you are driving into the city, we recommend you use Wellesley Street or Custom Street as an alternative.

Exciting changes for Ferry customers

Te Ngau o Horotiu is our new world-class ferry facility and it’s opening soon! From 5th July, six new piers will come into operation. They’re located on the western edge of Queens Wharf, behind the existing Ferry Terminal, running alongside the ‘Cloud’.

This is a massive upgrade to Auckland’s ferry infrastructure and passenger services and it will serve the six million people a year that currently travel by ferry.

How will these changes affect my ferry travel?

To make the most of the new ferry facilities some of our services will change which pier they depart from. There are also some changes to timetables, and some additional services will be added.

The Downtown waterfront transformation is complete

Over the last three years Auckland’s downtown waterfront has been completely transformed.

The result is a world-class waterfront area with wider stone paved footpaths, beautiful gardens and seating, all brought together with new cycleways, better connection to public transport and  improved vehicle access.

The project will be officially opened by the Prime Minister on Friday 2 July.

Auckland Transport and Auckland Council, with mana whenua and construction partners have achieved:

  • Upgrade of Quay Street’s historic seawall
  • Quay Street enhancements and Te Wānanga
  • Lower Albert Street bus interchange
  • The historic Britomart CPO (Chief Post Office) building is now open again.

Quay Street is now open again to traffic in both directions, with improved access to Prince's Wharf and Queens Wharf. If you're driving through this area, please keep to 30kph and watch out for pedestrians and people on bikes and scooters.

A COVID-19 reminder

Auckland is currently in COVID-19 Alert Level 1, and it is a requirement to wear a face covering on all buses, trains and ferries.

Face masks are on sale in vending machines at facilities across Auckland. The masks are in 42 machines at bus and rail stations and ferry wharves. Passengers who may have lost or forgotten their face covering can get one quickly and easily to avoid missing their journey.

Please also remember to scan QR codes on public transport with the NZ COVID Tracer app.
