2022 Urban Walking Festival goes digital

Pick a walk online and explore a neighbourhood

Urban Walking Festival 2022

Tāmaki Makaurau’s Urban Walking Festival is all about local people celebrating their place, sharing what makes it special, and advocating for what they love about it through walking and conversation. For the first time, this festival will be hosted entirely online so you can take self-guided neighbourhood walks at your own pace, whenever you like.

Through these walks you’ll connect with the work of local artists, historians, ecologists, storytellers, and knowledge holders, who have all come together to create 12 digital walking experiences to help us discover Auckland by foot.

Walking experiences are live now, with new walks to be added throughout November.

Do you ride along the Grafton Gully Path?

There’s a temporary route change from next week

From Tuesday 1 November, a section of the Grafton Gully Path will close so that Vector can provide a second power supply to Auckland Hospital. The work is expected to take two and a half months to complete.

This means a section of the cycleway will be closed to the south of the Wellesley Street Bridge and Grafton Road, in both directions.

If you’re riding or walking, you’ll be able to follow a temporary alternate route, which will be marked clearly with signage. You can also view the temporary cycle lane map below.

Kidical Mass – a bike ride for the whole whānau

Grab your bike and picnic blanket, it’s on tomorrow!

Kidical Mass 2022 - free event

Gather your whānau and get ready for Kidical Mass – a fun, free riding event for kids. Starting from the fancy new Bike Hub on Queens Wharf to Silo Park, we’ll ride along separated bike paths and shared spaces so it’s fun and safe for everyone.

The ride is just over 1km and the route is completely flat (apart from the Wynyard Crossing bridge). The ride will take about 20min.

BYO picnic for the end of the ride. Kids will love the grassy areas, playgrounds, interactive installations, and the spaces to bike and run around.

Bring your friends, neighbours, schoolmates. See you tomorrow - Saturday 29 October from 9:45am.
