Kia ora,

We’re back with another edition of our monthly newsletter, packed with all the latest updates!

Review of the TM scheme

Review of the Total Mobility scheme

The DPO (Disabled Peoples Organisations) Coalition met with the Ministry of Transport and MRCagney who are completing the review of the Total Mobility scheme.

The review is focusing on how Total Mobility operates and how it can be improved to remove barriers and achieve better outcomes for disabled people. This could be by improving access to their communities, social networks, cultural needs, health services, education and employment opportunities.

There will be opportunities for members of the community to engage with the review process. Each of the DPOs will publicise information as this becomes available.

You can contact your DPO for more information by emailing info@transport.govt.nz if you'd like to partake in the review process once it becomes available in the future.

The TM Scheme project team will meet with the DPO Coalition again this month.

New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) live on public transport network for the first time ever!

The NZSL pilot team is pleased to announce the first official use of NZSL on the Tāmaki Makaurau public transport network. This historic moment is pivotal for the Deaf community, who will now see their visual language alongside other communications.

NZSL PIDs

The pilot brings the NZSL language visually onto a few key facilities using our digital screens, known as Public Information Display Systems (PIDS):

Stage 1:

  • Waitemata/Britomart Train Station, existing screen being used.

Stage 2:

  • Downtown Ferry Terminal, existing screen being used.
  • Devonport Ferry Terminal and Newmarket station to be confirmed.

Any new screens installed on the network will also become permanent assets for all messaging as required.

Ferry Services update

In October 2023 we temporarily reduced timetables for some ferry services to help Fullers360 undertake an accelerated training programme. The success of the programme so far has meant that some of our ferry services will return to their regular timetables sooner than expected.

Ferry accelerated programme

From 4 June 2024:

  •  There will be additional Devonport services during weekday peak times (7am-10am and 4pm-8pm), taking the current peak frequency of 30 mins to 20 mins.
  • Half Moon Bay weekday sailings for (10am-2pm) and evenings (until 9pm) will be reinstated, as well as Friday night services until 12:30am.
  • Also, there will be additional services for Birkenhead and Bayswater -operated by Explore Group.

Later in the year, there will also be more Gulf Harbour ferry services added during the week, and we are aiming to resume weekend sailings to Half Moon Bay in early 2025. We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while we worked to get services back up and running.
