Get going by bike

Staying active is great for our physical and mental health. The hard part is staying motivated, especially with this latest lockdown. Let’s welcome the warmer weather and find a way to get that motivation back.

Take some time out of your day to enjoy the sun and fresh air. To get back in the groove, start by going for a quick ride with someone from your bubble, and if you need an extra reason, plan a stop for a coffee or ice cream on your journey.

Now that our days are getting longer, it’s the perfect time to teach your kids how to ride too.

For more on how to get started, check out our online riding tips. You’ll find advice about bikes and riding gear, as well as instructional videos to help your kids learn to ride.

Speed limit changes

What do you think of the proposed speed limit changes around Auckland?

Safer roads benefit walkers and riders. That’s part of why we’re proposing speed limit changes on approximately 800 roads around Auckland - predominantly in South Auckland and on roads around 57 schools.

Whether you’re travelling to school, biking on a shared path, going for a walk with friends, or just out getting some fresh air, these changes will give you the confidence to move around your neighbourhood safely and will help us look after our most vulnerable travellers.

Have your say

Easier to explore your local area on foot or by bike

We have some good news! We’ve updated the AT Journey Planner on our website so you have easy access to cycling and walking routes. Previously you could only see cycling and walking routes through the AT Mobile app, using your phone.

Make the most of the sunshine and your extra time spent at home by exploring your neighbourhood. We’ll be there to help you find your way.

Locky docks

Locky docks have launched in Auckland

The brainchild of Big Street Bikers, Locky Docks, have proved their worth in Christchurch and the New Lynn shopping centre and are now popping up around Auckland. Our cycling specialist Zane Bray checked them out recently.

Here’s what he had to say about these amazing new bike locks, “The great thing about the Locky Docks is that you can use your AT HOP card to open and close the locks, and they don’t cost anything to use. The bars are so thick that once your bike is in there it’s super secure and you can charge your e-bike in them.” If you’re biking around in the city, make sure you swing by and check them out.

With Auckland Transport installing more double decker bike parking around the city soon, the options for secure bike parking are increasing.
