AT introduces $20 daily fare cap

From 23 May we will be introducing a $20 daily fare cap on public transport. This means you will be able to travel all day on trains, buses and inner harbour ferries tagging on and off with your AT HOP card, and never pay more than $20.

With the fare cap it's now not necessary to pay in advance for a whole day of travel. The system is automatic, so as long as you tag on and off with your AT HOP card, you'll not be charged more than $20 no matter how many train, bus and inner harbour ferries you take in the same day (to the last trip in the evening - even if that trip runs in the early hours of the next day).

The only exclusions are mid and outer-harbour ferries, SkyBus services and Waiheke ferry serivce. Bayswater, Birkenhead, Northcote Point and Devonport Inner Harbour ferries are included.

Customers can still purchase the AT HOP Day Pass if they want to for $18.

Trains are back on track on weekdays

It’s been a difficult time for rail customers while KiwiRail’s track repair programme has progressed on the network. We thank you, our customers, for your ongoing patience. The good news is that the larger part of the track repair programme is now complete. For customers travelling during the working week, we’re now back to full schedules, with trains running every 10-minutes in peak*. We also have some of our brand-new electric trains in service and this means we have more capacity.

Although our weekday trains are running as they should, we still have important repair and upgrade works progressing on weekends. This work is required to prepare the rail network for the introduction of the City Rail Link and the introduction of more trains. If you are planning to travel on the weekend, we advise that it’s best to check on AT Mobile, or our rail closures webpage.

*Except on the Onehunga Line and Papakura to Pukekohe. Keep up to date with changes to train services with AT Mobile service alerts.

Mid-city bus changes

On 27 June, we reach another important major milestone in the construction of the City Rail Link. We’ll be re-opening Wellesley St to all vehicles, including buses. Soon after we’ll be closing the intersection of Victoria and Albert St’s to vehicles so work can progress on the new Aotea Station. The intersection will remain open for pedestrians and people on bikes and scooters. Many bus routes will be changing, along with bus stops. For example, OuterLink and NX2 buses will return to Wellesley St, while the InnerLink will use Fanshawe and Custom St’s between Britomart and Victoria Park instead of Queen St and Victoria St. We’ll give you more details closer to the time of the changes with notices at affected bus stops and we’ll have ambassadors on the street to help.

More details will be available on our website in June.

New ferry terminal coming soon

Te Ngau o Horotiu (previously known as the Ferry Basin Redevelopment) refers to the sawtooth shape of the new pontoons. It's almost as if Horotiu - the resident kaitiaki for the Te Waihorotiu valley and this part of Te Waitematā - had left his bite marks in the new structure.

Te Ngau o Horotiu project is an integral part of the $350 million Downtown Programme and will see the creation of six new berths in the Ferry Basin.

It is another step towards modern, consolidated ferry infrastructure for Auckland. It will have improved accessibility and greater operational flexibility, which will help accommodate increased passenger numbers.

Te Ngau o Horotiu has just been handed over to Auckland Transport for commissioning and trials, and is expected to be open and operational for ferry passengers early July 2021.

Millwater bus connection

More buses, more often

From late June, we’ll be making service improvements to the 985 bus route which connects Millwater to Hibiscus Coast bus station. Currently, the route runs only hourly at peak times and with the area growing rapidly, additional frequency is needed. We’ll be changing this service to run every 20 minutes during peak and every 30 minutes all other times. This will make catching the bus to Hibiscus Coast Station and connection to Northern Busway services a lot easier. It also means that when you return home on a Northern Express service in the evening you won’t have to wait long for the 985. Remember with integrated fares it costs you no more to use the 985 to connect to Northern Express services, so you can leave the car at home.

We’ll confirm the date the new services will start very soon, or you can visit our website.
