Kia ora and welcome to the latest update on the Eastern Busway project

A balanced approach to safety

As the project will change the road environment of Ti Rakau Drive and increase the number of pedestrians, cyclists, and vulnerable users, the priority is making sure everyone is safe.

To help people cross Ti Rakau Drive to get to the new bus stations, raised safety platforms will be installed to calm the speed of traffic without causing significant delays. The platforms will be near Gossamer and Pakuranga Stations, and a raised pedestrian crossing will be installed on Ti Rakau Drive at Edgewater Station.

Safety is being improved in other parts of the project’s design, including traffic light phasing, reducing the size of intersections, increasing median islands for people waiting to cross, and cycleway separators on footpaths to ensure the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.

The project people – introducing Ida Taefu

The project people – introducing Ida Taefu

Climbing Iceland’s highest mountain peak is the type of project that professional engineer and accomplished sportswoman Ida Taefu loves to champion in her spare time. It’s hardly surprising then that Ida enjoys taking big work challenges in her stride too.

Ida leads the team responsible for the engineering management and integration of workstreams on the Eastern Busway project and is also a member of the alliance’s leadership team.

Before joining the alliance, Ida’s enthusiasm for travel led her to work on several complex rail projects over several years in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

When asked about her motivation for working on the Eastern Busway project Ida says, ‘I love a good challenge’. Ida is particularly keen to work on projects that make a difference in communities. As a local to Ormiston where she lives with her husband and two children, she says ‘it makes this project personal. It’s awesome to be able to contribute to something that is so close to home.’
