Busway Update

Kia ora and welcome to this update on the Eastern Busway that is being built between Pakūranga and Botany.

Pakūranga’s new connection

A new road bridge (flyover) will be built above Reeves Road as part of the Eastern Busway project. It’ll provide a direct connection between Pakūranga Road and the South Eastern Highway to help ease congestion in east Auckland. We plan to start construction in early 2024 and it’ll take about two years to finish.

Access will remain available to the Pākuranga town centre, neighbouring businesses and homes while we build the flyover. There’ll be some changes to the layout of local roads that we’ll advertise to help you plan your alternative routes, including a new link from William Roberts Road to Tī Rākau Drive.

Improvements around Pakūranga Plaza

Now more than ever it's important that we build in a way that reduces the risk of future flooding. We’re improving the stormwater network around Pakūranga Plaza and appreciate your patience with the temporary changes to the car park.

We’re also working during the night on Tī Rakāu Drive to install underground signal cables for traffic lights at Palm Avenue.

The road layout changes that will be place in and around Pakūranga Plaza during October are shown on the map below.

Thank you

It was great to see community interest in the project during two October pop-in sessions in Pakūranga Plaza. There were questions, discussions and recommendations about the project and the changes that’ll be taking place during the next four years while the busway is built.

Thank you for popping in and letting us know how we can support you and your neighbourhood during construction.
