Auckland Transport Update

Kia ora,

The Government has announced that Auckland will move to Alert Level 3 at 11.59pm on Tuesday 21 September.

Things to remember when moving around Auckland

Please remember to stay home, stay in your bubble and avoid traveling where possible. At Alert Level 3 you may only travel in your area for essential personal reasons. Essential travel includes:

  • travelling to and from work
  • to the supermarket, the doctors or a pharmacy
  • to get a COVID-19 vaccine
  • to see someone within your extended bubble
  • to access an essential business or service.

We recommend that you continue to work and study from home if you can. If you need to travel, please scan the Ministry of Health’s NZ COVID Tracer app QR code onboard your service, to assist with contact tracing, should it be needed.

For more information about traveling in your area visit the COVID-19 website

What this means for public transport

  • At Alert Level 3, you must continue to use the back door to get on and off the bus and maintain physical distancing from other passengers while on any form of public transport. Passengers with mobility issues may use the front door to enter and exit bus services. Remember to tag on and tag off using your AT HOP card.
  • Buses, trains and ferries will continue to operate on reduced timetables until further notice. Please use the AT Mobile app and AT Journey Planner to plan your essential trips in advance and check there is a low number of people onboard your upcoming service, to help with physical distancing.
  • Following the Ministry of Health’s Guidelines, it remains mandatory to use a face covering while on-board all buses, trains and ferries, as well as at bus stops and stations, if you are over the age of 12.
  • As always, the safety of our staff and customers is our top priority. All public transport services are being cleaned regularly and thoroughly for your peace of mind.
  • It’s never been more essential to register your AT HOP card. The next time you tag on or off a bus, train or ferry listen for a triple-beep. Hearing a triple-beep means your AT HOP card is not registered. It’s easy to register, just click here.

Plan your journey using the AT Mobile app and Journey Planner

We believe, the more information, the better. During Alert Level 3 you need to maintain physical distancing between yourself and other passengers while onboard public transport.

The easiest way to make sure you can comfortably do this is to use the AT Journey Planner to view the number of passengers on your upcoming service. By using the Journey Planner, you can plan your essential trip in advance and know that you can travel to where you need to go safely.

If you haven’t already, download our AT Mobile app and use the Journey Planner to plan your next trip.

We'll get you there safely.
