Community information session

It was great to meet many local residents and business owners at the July and August Eastern Busway community information sessions. We chatted about the proposed busway, walking, cycling and playground facilities, and construction programme.

Your valuable comments have been grouped into main themes and are being reviewed by the project team to help refine the busway design and construction process. A summary report will be available here shortly.

Thank you for your feedback

You let us know:

So, we have:

You’d like cycleways and walkways to connect to existing facilities

Relayed to the design engineers to review. Further design updates will be provided later in 2022

You’d like safer pedestrian crossings across Ti Rakau Drive and in other locations in Pakuranga

Relayed to the project design engineers and AT safety team to review. Safety is a top priority for us

The Edgewater Drive intersection should include a right-hand turn onto Ti Rakau Drive or a longer u-turning bay to cope with school and other traffic

Relayed to the design engineers who are reviewing the intersection design

Some great suggestions for the upgraded playground in Ti Rakau Park to ensure it is accessible for all ages and abilities

Relayed to our designers who are working closely with the Auckland Council Parks team to plan the upgraded playground

There is interest in the timeline and sequencing of construction

Put the timeline on our website, and will give regular written updates to our neighbours

There is some concern about construction causing disruption to personal journeys and daily life

Planned the construction to have as little disruption as possible, and will provide regular updates to our neighbours

Upcoming work from Pakuranga to Ti Rakau Drive Bridge

Starting from September 2022, work will take place to prepare for the busway to be built.

Early works will include:

  • The staged removal and demolition of Auckland Council owned houses and commercial buildings. That will create space for busway construction. Where it’s possible, houses will be relocated and materials will be salvaged for re-use. Property tenants are being provided with support while they find new accommodation.
  • Site clearance, which will involve some tree removal
  • Temporary security fencing and security monitoring installed around vacant properties before removal or deconstruction
  • Temporary fencing installed as a safety measure around properties that border the construction area
  • The set-up of a fenced site laydown area where we will store construction materials, vehicles, a small excavator, and tools.

Construction of the William Roberts Road extension is expected to start in early 2023 based on consent approvals.
