Travelwise Choices

Kia ora Brigid,

This June, we’re not letting winter stop us from making more sustainable journeys, and this just became easier than ever with the opening of two new shared paths.

For Simplicity staff, sustainable travel couldn’t be simpler thanks to their free public transport offer.

We also take a look at Waka Kotahi’s innovation fund as applications open - could change be on the horizon?

Simplicity takes a big step towards sustainable staff travel

The AT linked account function makes auto top-ups easy

Simplicity workplace

As a social enterprise, Simplicity’s goals are clear. They make money for their investors, but they need to ensure their work helps to protect the environment and communities.

These values inspired them to take a big step towards sustainability by offering staff free public transport.

Using the AT linked account feature, the process was simple, and administration was streamlined with auto top-ups. Now, with huge uptake among the team, Simplicity is reducing their overheads on parking, offering valuable benefits to their staff, and doing their part to reduce emissions in Auckland.

Their next step is to crunch the numbers and find out exactly how much this scheme has saved their staff and the environment.

Section 2 of Glen Innes to Tamaki Drive is open!

Staff can commute sustainably with a brand a new shared path

Glen Innes to Tamaki Drive Shared Path

Aptly named ‘Te Ara Ki Uta Ki Tai’ (the path of land and sea), this path has stunning views through Pourewa Valley and toward the Waitemata Harbour, over the Eastern rail line and through Tahapa Reserve.

The newest section connects two existing paths from Glen Innes to Ōrākei Basin. People on foot and wheels can now travel an uninterrupted 5km along the path. Once the final section is complete, this path will offer 7km of safe, off-road pathways to support more sustainable travel.

The path gives easy access to Ōrākei, Meadowbank, and Glen Innes train stations, making commutes in these areas faster and simpler.

Do your staff know about the new shared path opening? Make their commutes easier and reduce emissions by spreading the word.

The New Lynn to Avondale shared path is now open!

Commuters can ride from New Lynn into the city centre on separated pathways

With the opening of the New Lynn to Avondale path, commuters can now travel from New Lynn into the city centre on separated cycleways.

The New Lynn to Avondale path is 2.9km long and follows the rail line from New Lynn station, connecting to the existing Waterview Path on Blockhouse Bay Road. This then links to the Northwestern cycleway and city centre networks.

Travelling through green spaces with easy connections to nearby train stations, this route offers a fresh and sustainable way for staff to travel between home and the office.

Your team can find out more about where the new route can take them by visiting our website.

Applications for Waka Kotahi’s innovation fund are now open

Could your business help shape the future of transport in New Zealand?

New Zealand is facing three key challenges in the transport sector:

  1. How can we integrate low-emission, first and last mile travel solutions into the transport system to reduce climate impacts, congestion, and vehicle dependency?
  2. How can we provide underserved, rural communities and those who travel outside of regular commuting times, with greater access to transport options?
  3. How can we reduce the environmental impact of transport infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance?
Auckland

Waka Kotahi has launched the fund to find innovators who can help to address these issues. Funding is available for 16 weeks and anyone in the private sector can apply.

If you think your business, staff, or someone you know has the skills and knowledge to help, encourage them to apply.

Applications close on 4th July.
