Busway Update

Kia ora and welcome to the latest update on the Eastern Busway project.

Mud kitchen for local playcentre

One of the project’s deconstructed houses has had its kitchen sink given new life. The sink was picked up by the Onehunga Community Recycling Centre (OCRC) in a partnership that our sustainability team established several months ago.

From OCRC, the sink went to the Menzshed organisation, which is a community workshop for its members to share their hobbies and support community projects. Menzshed transformed the kitchen sink into a mud kitchen for the Pakūranga-Rahihi playcentre in Pakūranga and delivered it recently for the children to enjoy.

Work in progress

From Tuesday 6 June to August 2023, work to locate underground services will start on Pakūranga Road, Tī Rākau Drive and in the Pakūranga Town Centre public car park.

Our project team will locate underground services and install any new ones before starting to build the busway.

The work on Pakūranga Road and Tī Rākau Drive will mostly take place overnight in off-peak travel times. Traffic detours will guide motorists around the road closures.

Award win for Sarah Heke Hall

Sarah winning award

Sarah Heke Hall (Ngāpuhi) is the foreperson on the Eastern Busway Alliance and the winner of the Next Generation Leader Award at Infrastructure New Zealand’s Building Nations 2023 Impact Awards.

This is fantastic recognition of Sarah’s enormous amount of mahi, drive, and inspiration in her career this far.

“There are many opportunities in construction for Māori and Pasifika women. It’s an excellent time in this sector to make a positive difference. Working in construction and with communities is a great challenge, especially on big jobs like the Eastern Busway” says Sarah.
