Watermain weekend works are a success

The Eastern Busway Alliance worked around the clock during an April weekend to install three large watermain pipes (0.9m x 12m each) under a key Pakūranga intersection. The team completed the work successfully alongside March Cato contractors for Watercare, and also reinstated the pavement across the Reeves Rd and William Roberts Rd intersection as planned.

Alliance Project Director Matt Zame says it all went smoothly despite the poor weather, and the road was open ahead of the Monday morning rush hour. “This project is taking place in a busy part of East Auckland. We’re working closely with stakeholders to keep them informed and to ensure disruption is minimised. There will be more focused work sessions like the watermain install weekend to help reduce the impact on the community.”

Construction work continues in the Pakuranga Town Centre area. Over the next few months, underground utility installation and investigation will take place in several places including William Roberts Road, Cortina Place and Reeves Road. Residents, businesses and motorists will be kept informed.

Upcycling with The ReCreators

Upcycling has been practiced at Manurewa Intermediate School recently. The ReCreators taught 25 students how to make planter boxes using fence panels that are no longer required by the Eastern Busway project. As well as teaching the kids valuable life skills, The ReCreators talked about a circular economy and how to turn recycled materials into new products.

The project team is aiming to use and reuse resources and materials as efficiently as possible. Find out more about our Sustainability Strategy and Sustainable Procurement Policy on our website.
