Community information days

Eastern Busway route is confirmed

In February 2022 Auckland Transport (AT) approved the design for the busway section between Pakuranga and Ti Rakau Drive Bridge. Since then, AT has considered the route options between Ti Rakau Drive Bridge and Botany Town Centre and all community feedback.

In early July, AT confirmed that the preferred route will include a connection at Burswood. This option was selected because it will deliver rapid and reliable bus services for East Auckland and best achieves the project’s objectives. Residents whose properties will be impacted by the decision have been advised and will be supported by the project team through the acquisition process.

Eastern Busway progress summary

The Eastern Busway Alliance

AT is working with four companies to design, consent and build the Pakuranga to Botany section of the busway. Together with our mana whenua partners, specialists in safety, planning, environment, community engagement, design and construction, we are working together by sharing skills and knowledge to deliver this large and complex infrastructure project.

Building the Busway

Constructing the busway safely, quickly and with the least disruption are priorities for the alliance. From August 2022, preparation work will start in the Pakuranga Town Centre area and along Ti Rakau Drive to Ti Rakau Drive Bridge. Vacated properties and sites will be cleared, and the project team is working with suppliers and organisations to relocate buildings and reuse as much material from them as possible.

Completing a big project like the busway creates change and some disruption. The alliance is keen to be good neighbours while the work is in progress and will keep you updated so you know what to expect.

Sustainability

We’re mindful that our everyday choices and actions affect the environment, so the alliance is taking steps to ensure we reduce our impact on Earth. As part of our sustainable way of working, the team is thinking through the environmental, cultural, social, and economic effects before engaging a new supplier or service provider.

Some of our other focus areas are; giving opportunities to a range of local individuals and businesses, using and reusing resources wisely, and being great neighbours while the project is built. It’s part of doing what we can to help look after one another, the community, and our planet.
