Travelwise Choices Awards - last chance to nominate

Get the recognition you or your organisation deserves

Solving transport issues deserves a high five, and more importantly, a nomination. Don’t miss your chance to nominate your company or a colleague for this year’s Travelwise Choices Awards. The nine awards recognise the commitment businesses, individuals and community organisations have made to encourage staff, students, customers, or volunteers to make fewer car journeys.

Get your nomination in by midday 31 August or email our friendly awards coordinator to ensure it gets the recognition it deserves.

Ferries have joined AT Metro's integrated fares system

Deal ahoy! It’s time to broaden your horizons and set sail on Auckland’s many different forms of public transport because ferries have now joined AT Metro’s integrated fares system. Now you can use your AT HOP card to take a single-zone trip on a bus or train and use the ferry before or after your trip with one great catch; you’ll only pay one price for the whole journey. If you travel beyond the single-zone (at either end of your ferry trip) you will be charged the price per zone that you have travelled. Simply tag on and tag off with your AT HOP card on each train, bus, or ferry you use. Easy!

Choose to go car-free

Car Free Day, 22 Sept

It’s time to ditch the traffic once and for all and adopt a new way of getting around on Car Free Day, 22 September. Put down your car keys and do one (or a few) of the following instead: walk, run, use your bike, take public transport, skateboard or e-scooter. Choosing a more active way to get around will not only make you healthier, but it’ll also make you richer. Getting rid of a car, with all the associated petrol and maintenance costs could save you on average $10,200 every year. Use Auckland Transport’s new Commuter Calculator to see how much you could save for yourself.

Maintenance problems made easier on the AT website

What can you do if you’re out and about and notice something that needs to be fixed or attended to?

Well, if there’s overgrown vegetation across a footpath, glass in the cycle lane, or a faulty AT HOP card scanner on the bus, you can report the issue on the Auckland Transport (AT) website.

The website has a new and improved ‘report a problem’ form that can be used to report problems you notice when traveling around. The form is sent directly to the team involved, and in some cases directly to the contractor.

This means response times will improve, allowing issues to be solved faster.

Flexi-working is the new normal for many people

More Aucklanders are working from home today than they did last year. Analysis from before the recent lockdown shows that whilst 93% of regular public transport commuters still came into the city centre three days a week, only 48% were doing this five days a week.

This change is supported by the results from the recently released 2020 Flexibility Report. The report shows a general shift towards flexible working and points out that Aucklanders are travelling less regularly than they used to. It’s time to adapt and embrace flexible working.
