Kia ora Brigid,

New prices for your travel

Some of our fares will be increasing from Sunday 2 April 2023. They will go up by an average of 6.5%, which will add no more than 20 cents per journey while fares are still half-price* (currently until 30 June).

With the uncertainties caused by COVID-19, we decided to postpone our annual fare review for the past two years.  However, after careful consideration, we now need to make some changes to cover our operating cost increases.

If you’re able to travel at off-peak times, remember you can get an additional 10%* discount on your fare.

Tell us your thoughts on public transport in Auckland

We’re working to get our public transport network back to where it was before the pandemic.

Our main focus at the moment is on working with our operators and partners to recruit more drivers to reduce cancellations, improve travel times and the reliability of our services, and make changes to the routes that aren’t performing as expected. Once we’ve addressed these issues, we’ll shift more of our focus to planning for the future.

To help us move forward, we want to hear your thoughts on how we should manage and improve public transport into the future.

New paid parking at Auckland Zoo, other travel options, and a family pass up for grabs

Auckland Zoo Tiger

Thinking about heading to the zoo to spend some time with the Sumatran tigers?

Make the journey there part of the fun and explore our range of bus services that stop nearby.

There’s a bus stop just a short 8 min walk from the zoo entry on Great North Road, that you can connect to from many bus routes across the city.

Other routes that connect you with the OuterLink service drop you at the bus stop on Meola Road, a 13min walk to the zoo.

Don’t forget kids under 16 can travel for free* on weekends too!

New paid parking

Auckland Zoo now has paid parking at their two large car parks. It costs $2/hour to park in the Zoo car parks, with a maximum charge of $8. Parking charges apply from 9am to 5pm every day.

The revenue generated by paid parking will help pay for the improved infrastructure (including more planned car spaces) and ongoing operational and maintenance costs. Any surplus will support the valuable work of Auckland Zoo and MOTAT.
