Puhinui Station

To the Airport in 10 minutes from the newly opened Puhinui Station

If you're anything like us at the moment, you'll be dreaming of where you'll travel once things open up again. If your dreams involve you heading to the airport, then you should try travelling through the new and improved Puhinui Station on your way there. Puhinui Station re-opened in late July and now that it's open, it'll help you get to the airport via public transport quicker than ever before.

In less than an hour, you can travel from the city to the airport, swapping from a train to an electric AirportLink bus at Puhinui, that travels on bus priority lanes. The services are frequent throughout the day and a one-way journey will set you back only $5.40, making this a fast and sustainable way to travel.

Light Rail gathering momentum

Did you know that we're currently exploring the idea of using light rail in the city centre? The Auckland Light Rail project is looking at how light rail can work best for the city. Right now, the project's priority is to deliver light rail between the city centre and Māngere.

A light rail system is a high-capacity, reliable, frequent and convenient public transport connection made up of modern and comfortable trams travelling on city street tracks. As such, it's much quicker and easier to install than heavier rail options.

Encouraging more students to get on their bikes

Bikes are a cheap and sustainable way to travel around, yet new research carried out this year indicates that only two percent of tertiary students across Auckland cycle to their place of study. While we know not every journey can be done by bike, we've been talking to students to see how we can encourage more of them to give cycling a go.

In June this year, we sponsored a hackathon held at the University of Auckland's creative Unleash space, where groups of students competed against each other to come up with the most compelling ways to encourage students onto bikes. We also took our 'Bike Roadshow' to orientation events in Semester 2, to give students all the advice and tips they needed to confidently pick up a bike. If you're interested in giving cycling a go, make sure you check out our website below.
