Our purpose is to create easy journeys and connect our people and communities together.
With millions of bus trips every year, we’re working to improve the journey information available for bus passengers. We are addressing this by providing “next-stop”, “transfer” and “disruption” information to bus customers available in Te Reo Māori and English.
Customers will benefit from these bus announcements, by receiving important information such as the name of the next bus stop, information on when to transfer to a different bus route, train, or ferry service, and details about live service disruptions. This is helpful for regular customers who might get distracted or are traveling at night-time. They are also helpful for tourists and new customers, as well as blind and low-vision customers.
Announcements will be played less than 10% of the time, leaving 90% quiet time on journeys. By providing a more accessible service to our customers, especially for our passengers with low vision, we hope for an improved and enjoyable experience of traveling around Tāmaki Makaurau.
The first few buses with the announcements have already entered service. Following that, the announcements will be gradually rolled out across the city over 2022/2023, depending on the arrival of equipment from overseas.
